Many of us choose to take the most natural approach to preserve the condition and beauty of our skin. So, why should things be any different with the hair care products we rely on?
Natural oils are becoming widely used by people from all walks of life and with all hair types. Fruit- and nut-based oils can all be called upon to boost the health of the hair and scalp. In this blog post, we’re shining the spotlight on the top natural oils for hair health.
Avocado oil
If it’s preventing hair loss and slowing thinning that’s on your mind, add avocado oil to your shopping list.
Rich in vitamin E and several antioxidants, this natural oil has been linked to fewer breakages and better hair growth. As well as applying avocado oil directly to your natural hair and scalp, you can also combine it with honey to make a nourishing, DIY hair mask.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil has become the go-to remedy in recent years, with its versatility taking it far beyond its use in the kitchen. There are several benefits to using coconut oil on the skin and nails, with its naturally moisturising and antimicrobial qualities paving the way to a beautiful complexion. Unrefined coconut oil is also a great teeth whitener and make-up remover.
The hair can benefit from a regular, deep conditioning dose of coconut oil, with hair damage kept to a minimum and growth promoted the natural way. As Holland and Barrett explains, coconut oil is great for the scalp too:
“Dry scalps can be irritating and are one of the main causes of dandruff – and coconut oil may help. Moisturising your scalp with a little coconut oil may help you say goodbye to dry and flaky skin. Be careful though, it won’t work for everyone and may just end up making your hair greasy, so do a little patch test first.”
Olive oil
Another natural oil that’s better known for its use in the kitchen, olive oil can be applied to the hair too. As well as being ultra-moisturising, it penetrates hair follicles deeply to boost strength. Olive oil can be used all year round on the hair and scalp but is particularly beneficial during the winter months when seasonal dryness takes its toll.
Jojoba oil
Sourced from the seeds of a plant of the same name, waxy jojoba oil is rich in fatty acids and super moisturising as a result. It has a long history of being used in hair care, with regular application helping to soften, nourish and restore lacklustre locks to their former glory.
It’s great for remedying dryness on the scalp too, with its conditioning effect even helping to prevent and treat dandruff.
Argan oil
Struggling to keep summer frizz under control? There’s a natural oil for that too! Argan oil works wonders for frizzy, fragile and coarse hair, with its fatty acids and resulting conditioning effect making locks sleeker and easier to manage.
